Euclid Elementary School of City Heights in San Diego recently completed their second Rainforest Art Project program. Following their new tradition of leaving a legacy for the school, the entire 5th grade class worked on an 8-foot mosaic eagle which will be featured next to the school's sign near the front entrace. The large mosaic gave the students the opportunity to use many of the new skills and vocabulary which they learned in the Rainforest classroom over the eight-week program. During this process they also came to understand the importance of giving back to their community and teamwork. In addition to working together to create the image of their school mascot, the students also worked on several individual art projects. One of these projects was to create a ceramic leaf to be permanently installed in the school along with their classmates' from years prior. Each leaf is created by a student starting with the design, sculpting the leaf from raw clay and finally glazing it. This project allows the students to individually create a piece of art from start to finish which celebrates their uniqueness and creativity.
Euclid Elementary will be unveiling their new mosaic eagle and leafs on Tuesday May 14th at 8:45 a.m.
