Herbert Ibarra Elementary
“You really inspired me to like art a lot.
Now, when I grow up I will want to be an artist.”
- Belinda, 3rd grade student

- “Iggy” the Herbert Ibarra Iguana
The Rainforest Art Project at Ibarra Elementary School has released creative power within our students that they never knew they possessed. The Rainforest teachers are proffessional artists who take very special pride in passing along skills and passion that have given all of us a newfound confidence in our creative abilities.
Right from the beginning, I knew that this would be an outstanding learning experience that would take our students on a journey of art discovery. The Rainforest curriculum is a nature-based, teaching about animals and their habitats. I was thrilled that they adapted this to emphasize the iguana, our revered school mascot.
It was amazing how they transformed one of our classrooms into a special Rainforest Room. They decorated with rainforest creatures, the students’ artwork and the weekly lessons, their trip to the San Diego Zoo, unveiling their finished projects and most of all–the fact that their names and most of their work will be a part of our school forever!
The children (and adults) loved the entire experience and we will always remember our time together with smiles on our faces.
